How Many Correct Answers Do You Need for 6.5, 7.0 or 8.0 in TMUA?
Official historical conversions, cautious 2024-2025 model ranges, and why there is no universal raw-mark cutoff for a TMUA score.
There Is No Universal “X/40 = 7.0” Rule
The required raw mark changes with the paper and scoring method. For 2016-2023, published paper-specific tables allow an exact lookup for that paper. Since the computer-based test began in 2024, UAT-UK has described Rasch IRT calibration and post-equating but has not published a fixed question-count-to-score conversion table.
What Recent Official Paper Tables Show
| Official paper | At least 6.5 | At least 7.0 | At least 8.0 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2021 | 24/40 | 28/40 | 35/40 |
| 2022 | 22/40 | 27/40 | 34/40 |
| 2023 | 21/40 | 26/40 | 34/40 |
These values apply only to the named paper. The variation is exactly why copying one year's threshold into another year is misleading.
What the MioMath Model Shows for 2024-2025
| Target | 2024 model centre | 2025 model centre |
|---|---|---|
| About 6.5 | 30/40 → centre 6.5; likely 6.0-6.5 | 30/40 → centre 6.7; likely 6.0-7.0 |
| About 7.0 | 32/40 → centre 7.1; likely 7.0-7.5 | 31/40 → centre 7.0; likely 6.5-7.5 |
| About 8.0 | 35/40 → centre 8.2; likely 8.0-8.5 | 35/40 → centre 8.3; likely 8.0-9.0 |
These are MioMath Model outputs, not official conversions. UAT-UK does not publish the raw-mark relationship for the computer-based test; use the ranges to plan practice, not to claim a precise live score.
How to Use a Target Responsibly
- Set a raw-mark range rather than one magic number.
- Track Paper 1 and Paper 2 separately; the same total can hide a serious weakness.
- Require the target across several unseen papers, not once on a familiar paper.
- Record guessed-correct answers separately from confidently solved answers.
- Use strict computer-based timing before treating the mark as predictive.
A Better Goal Than “I Need 31”
Suppose your target model says roughly 31/40. A more useful training objective is: average 31-33 across three unseen sets, score at least 14 on each paper, and have no more than two guessed-correct answers. That goal measures stability as well as the total.
Use the interactive TMUA score calculator and historical curves for every year, then compare the result with the official score distributions.

A simple lookup table from total raw marks to a likely TMUA score, based on the 2024 and 2025 papers and a check of this year's recalled questions.
TMUATMUA October 2026 Recap: What the Recall Data Actually Shows About Form Overlap, Repeats and Results Day
Every October 2026 form came from one shared international question bank, and overlap between forms was wildly uneven: about 35%, about 10%, and one form with 0% overlap. Cross-year repeats were real but small (3-7%). What that means for difficulty, circulating answer keys, and the wait for mid-November results.
TMUATMUA October 2026 Prediction: A Calculation-Heavy Paper 1, a Logic-Leaning Paper 2, and How to Use Your Last Days
Our prediction, read from the 2024 and 2025 global papers: Paper 1 will carry a heavy load of surds and algebra, and Paper 2 will lean on logic but is manageable once you are used to it. Plus what Oxford moving from the MAT to the TMUA changes, and what to practise before you sit.
